ParentChild+
Building strong foundations for young children and their parents through learning, connection, and play—right at home. ParentChild+ brings early learning into everyday family life, helping parents build confidence while supporting their child’s language, development, and readiness for school.
About ParentChild+
ParentChild+ is a free, home-based early learning program designed to support parents as their child’s first and most important teacher. At Making Opportunity Count, we bring this nationally recognized model directly into the homes of families with young children, creating a supportive and personalized learning experience.
Through regular visits, families are introduced to simple, effective ways to build language, literacy, and developmental skills through everyday interactions. The program focuses on strengthening communication, encouraging curiosity, and building strong, positive relationships between parents and children. By combining hands-on learning, guidance, and consistent support, ParentChild+ helps children enter school ready to learn while giving parents the tools and confidence to support their child’s growth long after the program ends.

Frequently Asked Questions
What age does my child need to be?
Children between 16 months and 4 years old are eligible for the program. This age range is a critical time for language development, early learning, and building the skills needed for future school success.
Do I need to be present during visits?
Yes. ParentChild+ is designed to support you as your child’s first teacher, so your participation is an essential part of each visit. Specialists work directly with you and your child together, modeling strategies you can continue to use throughout the week.
How long does the program last?
The program takes place over two years, with 23 weeks of visits each year. This longer-term approach allows families to build strong routines, reinforce learning over time, and see meaningful progress in their child’s development.
How often do visits happen?
An Early Learning Specialist visits your home twice each week during the program period. This consistency helps children become comfortable with the routine while giving parents regular opportunities to practice and build new skills.
How much does the program cost?
ParentChild+ is completely free for eligible families. All visits, books, and educational materials are provided at no cost, ensuring families have access to high-quality early learning support without financial barriers.
Our Impact
ParentChild+ services 40 families each year. For over 35 years, this National program has been helping parents understand the importance of reading, talking, and playing with their young child in order to encourage healthy development. Decades of research prove that participants graduate high school at a 20% higher rate than their demographic peers.
