The following are the licensing requirements for HVAC service technicians: 

Requirement One

A servicing technician completing any work on oil-fired equipment must possess a current Certificate of Competency as an Oil Burner Technician from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

Requirement Two

A servicing technician completing any work on gas fired heating equipment must be a Gas Utility Technician or possess a current Plumbers or Gasfitters license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

Requirement Three

A servicing technician completing any work on solid fuel heating equipment or chimneys does not need to be licensed or certified by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. However, EOHLC recommends the use of a National Chimney Sweep Guild certified chimney sweep to perform all associated solid fuel heating system repairs or installations.  

Requirement Four

A servicing technician completing work on any electric heating equipment must be an electrician licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. 

The following are the licensing requirements:

  1. Home Improvement Contractor Status within Commonwealth 
  1. Construction Supervisor or Insulation Specialty License  
  1. OSHA 30 Training and certification – all crew leads 
  1. Crew lead training and certification – all crew leads 
  1. OSHA 10 Training and certification – all crew members 
  1. OSHA confined Space certification – all crew members 
  1. Lead Safe renovator Contractor License 
  1. Asbestos Contractor certification (Asbestos and Vermiculite remediation) 
  1. Certified Indoor Environmentalist certificate (Mold remediation) 
  1. Master Electrician License and/or journeyman electrician license 
  2. Registered Electrical Business license 

The Contractor agrees to supply a Certificate of Insurance listing the Making Opportunity Count, Inc as an additional insured with the minimum coverage. 

1. General Liability 

  • Bodily Injury and Property Damage 
    • $1,000,000 each occurrence 
    • i$1,000,000 general aggregate 
  • Products and Completed Operations 
    • $1,000,000 aggregatec. 
  • Personal and Advertising Injury 
    • $1,000,000 each occurrence 

2.Contractors’ Pollution Liability (CPL) 

  • $2,000,000 per incident/aggregate 
  • There may be no exclusions for asbestos, lead paint, silica, or mold/fungus/legionella. 

3. Automobile Liability

  • $1,000,000 in Combined Single 

4.Workers’ Compensation 

  • Workers’ Compensation Coverage A 
    • Provide Statutory Minimum 
  • Workers’ Compensation Coverage B 
    • $500,000 each accident 
    • $500,000 disease per employee 
    • $500,000 disease policy
